Article Marketing Secret: How To Identify and Write For Your Target Market

Article Presented by:
Copyright © 2009 Bill Platt

Many people question as to what topic they should choose to write their articles... Fortunately, the short answer is simple... Write articles that appeal to your target market. But what does that mean exactly?

I always pose this set of three questions, when I am talking to clients about what they should write about:

1. What do you sell?

2. Who is most likely to buy what you are selling?

3. How can you "answer a question" or "solve a problem" to help those people who are likely to buy what you are selling?

What Do You Sell?

Maybe you sell widgets, cell phones, car parts, or marketing services... It does not matter what you sell... There will always be a topic that you can write your articles about.

Do keep in mind that the point of article marketing is not to directly sell your products, but rather to educate, inform, or entertain your reading audience. So long as you stick to the idea of educating, informing, or entertaining your readers, you will never have a shortage of people who want to read the articles you write.

However, if you keep your focus on trying to overtly sell your products or services in your "article" copy, then it will be difficult to find publishers who WANT to publish what you have written.

This is important to note, in that publishers NEED content, but publishers tend to be very picky about the content that they want to share with their readers. In order for a publisher to become or remain profitable, he or she must always serve the desires of his or her readers. And readers do not want to be sold to, preached to, or criticized. Instead, readers want to improve their lot in this life and solve the problems that they face.

If you keep the needs of the publisher foremost in your mind, and the wants of the reader, then article marketing is a great tool that can help you to earn thousands of dollars.

If you lose focus of what publishers and readers want, then all you can hope for is a few links from your articles, from a few websites that very few people visit or read.

Who Is Most Likely To Buy What You Are Selling?

Just because you sell cars does not mean that anyone who has a drivers' license is in your target market. Let us put this statement in perspective.

  • If you sell $2000 cars, most of the people in your target market are the poor - including those in poverty and students.

  • If you sell $10,000 cars, your market is mostly families in middle-class America. Occasionally, you will find the college kid coming to your store to buy a car for college, and sometimes you will see a bunch of tire kickers who can only pray to get financed.

  • If you sell brand new cars, your target market will again differ by what kinds of vehicles you sell. A Cadillac-buyer is different from the SUV-buyer and the economy-car buyer.

  • There is not a car dealership anywhere in the world that tries to target its advertising to everybody with a pulse and a drivers' license. It just does not happen. Either the dealership talks about its available cars and the benefits of owning a specific car, or the dealership points out that they can finance anyone.

Once you understand who is most likely to buy what you are selling, then figuring out what to write about has been made much easier.

Help Your Readers Solve A Problem

Before you start writing your article, you should try to get into the heads of the people most likely to buy what are selling. Those people as a general rule have common problems for which they seek solutions.

One way to get a handle on what those problems might be is to review the email correspondence and phone calls you have taken from your clients. If you read that email all at the same time, certain questions will be asked over and again. In fact, you might even have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page on your website that you can reference at this point in the brainstorming session.

Your email and phone correspondence and the FAQ page on your website can lead you to a better understanding of the kinds of questions your customers are always needing to be answered for them.

Once you have achieved the understanding of what problems your customers seek to have solved for them, then you have to come to the magic formula for writing articles that find wide publication and a large readership.

In your article, present your readers with the questions that people have, and then present answers to the questions and show people how to solve their problems.

In doing so, publishers who have heard the same questions you have heard will be strongly inclined to publish your articles. And when publishers agree to publish your articles, you will be able to reach the publishers' readers and a huge network of already targeted people who are very likely to buy what you are selling.

Understanding The Mechanics Of Article Marketing

When you write your articles, it is important to remember a few key points while writing the articles. Those key points are:

  • The title serves to get your article opened, so it needs to be good.

  • The body of the article answers questions and sells readers on your credibility in the marketplace.

  • The article should be easy to read, and it should easily carry the reader to your About The Author information at the end of the article.

  • Once at your Resource Box (About the Author information), the role of the Resource Box is not to sell your products or services, but to get the reader to visit your website, where the real selling will take place.

  • Using the formula that I have outlined here, you are sure to find success with your article marketing endeavors.

Sure, I know some people might be thinking that the only reason for article marketing is building links, so all this extra effort would be unnecessary. But let me tell you something that I learn from time-to-time...

Did you know that if you write an article that gets published in a large newsletter that you can in fact earn $10,000 plus in sales from that single article? This is a lesson that I have learned more times than I can count. And to be honest, it is a lesson I like to learn.

Consider this... You can spend a few dollars and very little time to create an article that will generate a few back links, hopefully helping you to rank in the search engines for your target keywords. Or, you can spend a few more dollars and a little more time and create an article that could generate back links for the search engines AND find a wider audience for your article in newsletters - newsletters that could potentially deliver thousands of visitors to your website and generate thousands of dollars in sales in the next couple weeks. Which strategy makes more sense to you?

If you are wondering if I practice what I preach, then read this article again and then see my resource box below. I provide article distribution services to my customers, and my customers frequently ask me what they should write about in their articles and how to best construct those articles to reach a wider audience, and more specifically, their target audience. If I have answered these questions to your satisfaction, then visit my website and let me help you to promote your articles too.

The Three C's of Vacation Home Marketing

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Jon Ludwig

As both vacation rental property owners and vacation rental advertising website operators, we have often had other vacation rental owners as well as online and offline publications ask us what really drives the vacation rentals by owner market. After a lot of thought and a lot of years of experience, we've distilled it down to what we call the "three C's" of vacation rental marketing: cost, comfort, and convenience. On our own vacation rentals by owner advertising website we posted a page on this topic in our owner's section, but thought that this was something worth exploring on the blog to get some additional feedback from the owner community.

Why "cost", "comfort", and "convenience"? Cost is a pretty simple argument. A typical family of four planning a vacation is probably going to require two hotel rooms, one for mom and dad, and one for the kids. A decent hotel room generally costs $150/night, depending on the location. In the high season in many hot vacation destinations, hotels can cost up to $300 or more a night. If you multiply that times two for two rooms, you are looking at $300 to $600 or more per night. In most cases, that same family of four can find a great vacation rental property with far more amenities than a boring hotel room for half of that price.

The other important aspect to the cost argument for vacation rentals versus hotels is the fact that almost 100% of vacation rental properties have kitchens with a complete set of appliances and cutlery. This gives a family on a vacation the option of cooking meals in, which can save a tremendous amount of money. A family of four would probably be looking at a budget of at least $150 a day in food if they had to eat every meal out, whereas utilizing the kitchen in an average vacation rental would allow them to save at least half of that figure by cooking a few meals in.

Comfort is a very important draw for a vacation rental versus a hotel. Since many vacation rentals are individually owned and represent a families second residence, they typically have comfortable furniture, DVD players, music systems, nice kitchens, and comfortable beds in the bedrooms. A hotel room exists to make money for its owners. It is a safe bet that these owners have never spent a night in the hotel, and never will. Typically, any comfort items in a hotel are looked upon by its owners as expenses that need to be minimized, not as items that the owner might themselves use from time to time. This difference in philosophy creates a more comfortable atmosphere for the renter of a vacation rental; you are truly staying in someone's home, and that is generally a far more comfortable experience than the clearly temporary surroundings offered by the average hotel room.

The convenience features of a vacation rental are often overlooked by the owners when they advertise their vacation rentals online. For example, if you owned a vacation rental near the beach in Destin, Florida, it would likely come stocked with rafts, beach towels, children's beach play equipment, a DVD player, a decent television, and a variety of specialty appliances in the kitchen, including everything from coffee makers to can-openers. The average hotel has none of these things, so a family would have to go out an buy rafts, beach towels, beach toys, etc, they would have to haul it all along with them, or they would have to go without. It is much more convenient for the traveling family to have these things available as part of the vacation rental's standard amenities.

Being in the vacation rentals by owner advertising business, we have looked at a lot of advertisements that owners have posted for vacation rentals. While many of them are good descriptions of the basic features of the property, it is too easy to lose site of the advantages that your vacation rental provides for the traveling family when you are trying to distill your vacation rental down to a basic set of features. We suggest that you focus the text of your advertisements on the "Three C's" advantages your rental has. If it has a closet full of rafts, snorkeling equipment or beach gear that the renter can use, make sure to state that. If it has a heated garage space for ski equipment so the renters boots will be warm and dry the next day, that's important to mention.

It's important to remember that your primary competition in the vacation rental business is not really other vacation rentals; it is hotels. Yes, hotels are easier to book than vacation rentals. Yes, they are less risky than vacation rentals. But, they cannot compete when it comes to the "three C's", and we suggest that you push those advantages of your vacation rental in all your online advertisements.

How Can I Take Advantage of Breaking News? Publicity Dilemma 9

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Marcia Yudkin

If a news story breaks that relates to the services or products you sell, become alert, find an interesting way to make the connection, and take action as soon as possible. This is one of the fastest and cheapest ways to earn media coverage that captures attention in the marketplace.

The news you use as a hook might be front-page stuff or much more obscure. It could be national, international or local.

Let's say you're a plumber and you learn that the price of copper, which has been sky-high for the last year, suddenly dropped. The connection is that homeowners will soon have an opportunity to undertake kitchen or bath renovations for less because the price of copper pipes will be lower.

Or an earthquake occurs halfway around the world, killing thousands, in a city thought to have a low risk of quakes. You own an insurance company. You now have an opening to offer advice on whether or not those living in your locale should have earthquake coverage.

Or a celebrity's young daughter gets kidnapped, ransomed and returned home unharmed. Your firm manufactures bracelets that also secretly function as location devices. Had the daughter been wearing one of your bracelets, the police would have been able to find her within an hour.

    Got the idea?

In the first two of these situations, the business seeking publicity serves local customers only, so they should direct their publicity tie-in efforts to local newspapers, TV and radio. In the third situation, the company should aim at national publicity first, since their customers live anywhere.

The simplest way to jump into action with your breaking news connection is to call a media outlet you have reason to believe would consider your story relevant and track down the reporter or editor who handles the subject matter. This is much easier than it sounds. You see, tips are the lifeblood of news organizations, so that unlike companies that shield employees from the public, they have to have a system of channeling story suggestions to the proper person.

All you have to do is call the main telephone number of the media outlet, ask for the "news desk" and then ask who you should contact about a real estate (for our first example), business (for the second) or child safety (for the third) story. When you reach the person covering your topic, explain your news connection in four sentences or less. If you're leaving a voice mail message, end with your call-back number. If you're talking to someone live, finish your pitch, shut up and wait for their response.

You can make this sort of pitch by email also, if you have a reliable email address for a reporter, tip line or topical editor. Keep it brief and to the point and include a phone number as well as your email address for a reply.

When you're trying to interest national media in your story, pitching media outlets one by one takes too much time. If you have a particular media outlet you think would be a likely match for your publicity angle, contact them as described above. For example, the child safety bracelet story would be perfect for morning TV news shows like "Today" or "CBS This Morning." Otherwise, writing and distributing a press release is the way to go.

A press release presents your news tie-in in a specific journalistic-style format. (Google "sample press release" to find models to follow.) Normally these are 400 words or less - a page or so - in length. Use a press release distribution service such as PR Newswire, PRWeb or Emailwire to get your release in front or media people and the public.

Above all, do not delay. What's hot and exciting today may evoke no interest at all tomorrow or next week. Inform yourself now about all the steps described here so that when news breaks that can launch you into the public eye, you're prepared to jump right into action.

Fax To Email Can Be Easily Done With Online Fax

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Titus Hoskins

Many business owners and ordinary individuals often wonder how you can use your email system to send a fax? Especially now that more and more companies are switching over to this new way of faxing and countless people are using online fax to handle all their faxing requirements.

But just how do you send a "Fax to Email" or vice versa "Email to Fax?"

First, you have to understand one of the best ways to do this is to sign-up to an online fax service provider, where you will be given a local or Toll-Free fax number, which you can use to send and receive all your faxes. Your online fax provider acts as your intermediary to handle and process all your faxes.

Keep in mind, Internet faxing is simply using your email system and the Internet to send and receive your faxes. Because it is web-based, your faxes are available anytime, anywhere, as long as you have Internet access. Most providers will supply you with an online site (interface) where your faxes are stored. You can also send and receive your faxes from your login site.

Basically, you can send a fax to your online faxing service and they will forward it to the recipient in an email, your fax will be an attachment - usually in PDF or TIFF format. Likewise, you can use your email to send a fax, most companies will give you exact directions on how to do this. In most cases, to send a fax thru your email you simply enter the fax number you want dialed as a prefix in an email to your Fax Provider account - i.e. recipient's faxnumber@yourfaxcompany.com and attach your fax document.

Again, your online service provider acts as your intermediary on your behalf to process your faxes. That way you can still use email fax to send a fax to a traditional fax machine and vice versa. So you're not limited in any way by using an Internet Faxing service.

As mentioned before, in order to start using Internet faxing you have to sign-up to an online fax provider. There are numerous different faxing companies you can use but remember this is usually a long term service so do your homework now and you can save yourself some serious cash over the long haul. Your main goal is to find a service that meets your specific needs or requirements.

Monthly charges usually runs around $10 a month but there are cheaper options if your faxing requirements are very minimum. Some services offer a "pay-as-you-go" plan or have a yearly fee of around $20. So it does indeed pay to shop around.

Online faxing has many advantages over the traditional way of faxing; mainly it is paperless, inkless, more convenient, more secure and you don't need a fax machine or an extra phone line. Besides, it is totally mobile, compatible with laptops, PDAs, cell phones... and available anywhere you have the Internet.

Regardless of what you call it online fax, Internet fax, web fax... this is one service that will be here to stay.

    Are you using it?

    The Joy of Being Debt-Free

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Irene A. Majchrzak

Being debt-free! What would that mean for your life? It could mean the difference between a good retirement and a great retirement leading to more freedom to have the things you want. Gaining prosperity will no longer be incredible to you - it will simply be who you are.

There are three basic scenarios people find themselves in. Each scenario describes the differences in financial viewpoints. Universally, all potential retirees share the same need to learn how to increase their resources and decrease their liabilities. You will have the luxury to create a plan that will give you significant knowledge of your debt, opportunities to develop discretionary income and a strong focus on your financial goals.

In the first Scenario if you are in your 20's or 30's and more than 40 years away from retirement, accumulating money is only one aspect of your achievement. Controlling debt is the other side of the coin.

You have to understand that retirement is your own responsibility, learn that your youth assures you the benefit of time to double or triple the money you save and realize you have the awesome capacity to stay out of debt and achieve the success of amassing wealth.

In the second Scenario retirement is viewed as a continuum; a circle that includes saving money, controlling debt, and preparing for the future. If you are, 40 and looking forward to retirement in 20 years there are fewer pensions to rely upon. Therefore contributions to 401(k)'s, IRA's, etc. become your lifeline to retirement requiring the understanding of propelling yourself into a mode for accumulation of capital. Secondly, consider how obligations have made it difficult to find the discretionary income you need to fund retirement and thirdly, that you are still in a great position to double your pre-tax savings and achieve your goals.

Retirement from the perspective of our forefathers was seen as an ending. Very rarely did men go back to work. If you are 65, retired or very close to retirement, you will remember your dads and grandfathers leaving their jobs with their pensions and/or social security intact. Today we need new strategies.

To live your dream of retirement you want to realize the many opportunities you still have to increase your retirement wealth. Consider a fiscal review to adjust your investments, your budget and your debt and you will have the income you need for the next 25 or 30 years of your life.

Ultimately, you will give yourself the major attribute of fiscally successful men and women, your ability to stay out of debt.

Are Netbooks The Perfect Student Laptops?

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Titus Hoskins

Netbooks are everywhere, on buses, on trains, on planes... and in the classroom. It seems the little netbook has come out of nowhere to become extremely popular overnight.

    But what is a netbook?

Netbooks usually have screens of 10 inches or less, runs Windows or Linux and generally sell for well under $500. As its name indicates, the netbook's main purpose is to keep its owner conveniently connected to the net - anywhere, anytime.

First introduced by Asustek when it launched the first Eee PC in the fall of 2007. But it was only in the last year when we saw the explosive growth of these so-called mini-laptops. Now we have many computer companies such as HP, Dell, Lenovo... all jumping on this craze for a small portable laptop. So much so, that netbooks now is the fastest growing segment of the laptop industry and is expected to reach 139 million units by 2013.

Why is there a sudden popularity for the small netbook? Perhaps the answer lies mainly in our constant quest for mobility. We want a portable device that will keep us connected to the Internet and yet be small and light enough to be carried around all day. A truly ultra-portable device that keeps us connected with family, friends and the web.

The next question you have to ask: why do netbooks make for great student laptops? If the above reasons aren't enough, try the following:

    Size

Netbooks are small with 10 inch displays or less, which make them ideal for students. Plus, they are usually very lightweight - around 2 or 3 pounds. They are compact enough to tuck into your school bag or backpack, and small enough to carry around all day without developing a hernia.

    Portability

As mentioned above because the netbook is so small and compact, it is very portable. A very mobile device that we can use to stay connected to the web and friends. Connectability is one of the main features - you are connected to the web at all times.

    Sturdiness

Most netbooks are designed to be sturdy and tough. They can take a few hard knocks and still keep on working. Students are not exactly the most gentle creatures on the planet, so a sturdy tough machine is needed to handle the demands put upon it.

    Battery Life

Because of their small size, you will usually get better battery life than with a regular sized laptop. This is important to the student since you may have to go all day without a chance to re-charge the battery. Long lasting battery life makes the netbook the perfect student laptop.

    Performance

Although small, these mini-laptops still sports some very impressive specs. Many now come with at least 1 Gig of RAM and Intel Atom processors. There are even some with Solid State Hard Drives which make them more durable and less likely to be damaged. Most use Windows XP - newer models debuting this year with the Nvidia's Ion platform may have Vista or Windows 7, but still don't expect the kind of performance you would get from a regular laptop.

    Storage

While storage on netbooks is constantly increasing, it is still nowhere near the kind of storage you will find on a regular sized laptop. Usually, most devices have around 30 or 60 Gig hard drives which should be adequate for most student's needs. Many newer netbooks have 160 Gigs of storage.

    Price

Perhaps, the main reason netbooks make the perfect student laptops is the low price. Students are usually on a very limited budget and the low price-tag is a perfect fit. Many perfectly adequate machines are now priced in the $300 to $500 range - while many good ones go for well under $300. Plus, prices are steadily dropping so almost any student can now afford a netbook.

As you can plainly see, the netbook does have many features to make it a perfect student laptop: small size, very portable, excellent connections, very sturdy, long battery life, good performance, adequate storage and most of all, a very affordable price almost any student can take advantage of. Overall, netbooks are well suited for the classroom and the student.

Newsletter Publishers: The Redheaded Step Children Of Internet Marketing

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Bill Platt

People who publish online newsletters, often referred to as "ezines", have always played an important role in the growth of the Internet economy. In fact, if you listen to any of the Internet gurus, they are going to tell you time and again that the most important thing you can do towards the success of your online business is to build a list.

I think Titus Hoskins said it best when he said, "It is a well known fact that the key to successful online marketing comes from building a well targeted and responsive opt-in email list. This is mainly because your online marketing success comes from building relationships with a large subscriber base." Titus is the owner of http://www.bizwaremagic.com/

Successful newsletter publishers have built profitable niche businesses that represent the very specific needs of very specific consumers in the marketplace. While it is true that some newsletter publishers have subscribers that number in the hundreds, those who have been building their newsletter for years have a subscriber base ranging in the 10's to 100's of thousands of subscribers.

Joel Christopher (http://www.masterlistbuilder.com) says, "It's not just about building a list of names and emails, it's about building relationships and connections." He also says that newsletters are "not about huge numbers, it's about conversions. Converting names and emails into prospects, then into customers/clients, and finally into people who will promote you."

For the newsletter publisher, it is about giving readers what they want and to win the loyalty of their readers for the years to come.

Alexandria K. Brown, The Ezine Queen (http://www.ezinequeen.com/) advises her clients, "By showcasing your knowledge and skills, you will attract more and better clients and customers. You don't have to go say you're an expert. Instead, your audience will assume it." She also recommends, "What many folks don't know is that THE easiest and most effective way to do all this is to publish an e-mail newsletter or ezine."

As an advertiser, it makes a lot of sense to have your ads appear in the newsletters that best serve your target market - preferably in those newsletters that have a large subscriber base of responsive readers.

Ironically, it was newsletter marketing that turned me on to the potential of article marketing to promote my online endeavors. Ten years ago, I had a newsletter of my own. In order to grow my opt-in mailing list, I began doing advertising swaps with other newsletter publishers - a process by which I ran an ad for the other newsletter, and in turn they ran my ad in their newsletter.

As the result of those advertising swaps, I found that some newsletters had a really responsive group of readers. I was so impressed with the interest generated for my business in some newsletters that I began to pay for advertising in those mailing lists.

Angela Booth (http://www.hotwebcopy.com/newsletters.html) says, "Once someone is on your ezine's subscriber list, you can connect with them each week or each month. Since you need to have several interactions (some authorities say up to seven times) with a customer before they buy, an ezine gives you the ideal way to build the customer relationship." Booth also pointed out that "An ezine can be 'the lifeblood' of your business."

Yes, the money is in the list. And there is money not only for the person, who owns the mailing list, but also the advertiser who supports the publisher of the newsletter, and the persons who are involved in contributing content to the newsletter.

I never fully appreciated that concept until March 6, 2000. That is the day that my first "reprint article" was published in a newsletter called Internet Day. It was a fairly substantial publication, formerly operated by http://www.Internet.com. In 2000, Internet Day had over 150,000 subscribers. The response to that article was huge. I signed on a boatload of new subscribers to my newsletter, and I began to field questions from other Internet marketers about their businesses.

Suddenly, I was considered an expert, and my advice was in demand.

Between you and I, although the article was decent, it was not exceptional, and I was not the guru that so many of Internet Day's readers wanted to believe that I was.

But, Internet Day did teach me a very important lesson about the value of writing reprint articles. When an article gets published in a newsletter, it can drive a boatload of traffic to the authors' website on the day of publication, and over the next three days after publication.

In a recent article of his own, Willie Crawford (http://timic.org/) explained, "I also understand that part of my job as an ezine publisher is to serve as a filter. My subscribers learn to expect quality from me, and will pay more attention to future offers from me than they will from the marketers who filled their hard drives with a bunch of useless 'fluff'."

When I sit down to write an article, I write that article with the express intention of making sure it is good enough to be considered by a publisher for his or her newsletter.

In my thinking, publication in a newsletter can be more important than publication on a website, because it can literally put thousands of readers on my website in a single day. Over my years of writing articles, I have found that publication in a major newsletter can very realistically send a wave of thousands of targeted visitors to my website in just a few days - visitors who are interested in buying what I sell.

It is true that like everyone else, I also want my articles to be published on websites, so that I can get that all-important link popularity from Google and to improve my websites' rankings in Google's search results. But above links on websites, I want my articles exposed to large newsletter audiences. I find that I still get my articles published on websites, whether I write the article with the intent of finding publication in newsletters or not.

Did you realize that most newsletters are archived on the Internet? So when published in a newsletter, not only do I get a ton of traffic from the newsletter itself, but I also get links from the newsletter's online archives, and I also get my articles published on websites, whose webmasters tend to reprint articles found in their favorite newsletters.

One example of someone who reprints articles found in her favorite newsletters is Debbie Johnson (http://friendfeed.com/debbiejohnson). Whenever she sees one of my articles in a newsletter that she reads, she adds the article to the forum at http://www.DreamTeamMoney.com. This results in my article being read by hundreds, perhaps thousands of additional people - people who may have not had the chance to see my articles elsewhere.

Another example of someone who republishes articles they like, after reading that article in a newsletter, is Flavio Bernardotti from Alessandria, Italy. After reading one of my articles in a popular newsletter, Flavio republished the article on his Italian-speaking website (http://www.bernardotti.it/portal/showthread.php?t=128997).

If you think for a minute that my article would have been published on Debbie's or Flavio's forums if the article had not been published in several large newsletters, then you are bound to keep overlooking the real potential of publication in newsletters.

This article has actually been inspired by a number of people, with whom I have spoke with on the phone. Each wanted to know a bit more about my business. And when I told them that our article distribution service targets publication in newsletters and websites, I was told that they did not care about publication in newsletters. I was told by each person that his or her only concern was links on websites to propel their websites rankings in Google.

Every time I hear this from a potential client, my initial thought is, "Oh, my mistake... I have mistakenly believed you were in business to make money..."

To tell you the truth, I am floored when I hear people tell me that newsletters don't matter... I have personally earned hundreds of thousands of dollars in free advertising, as a result of my articles appearing in newsletters over the years. And more to the point of everyone reading this article, I have earned hundreds of thousands of dollars in new sales, as a result of being published in newsletters.

Yes, I do get links in websites also, and my websites generally rank well in Google and other search engines for competitive keywords. But my Google rankings are only part of the story... Less than 10% of the 2.5 million page views on my website were delivered by Google in 2008, and still, I received more than 200,000 visits to my website in 2008, as a result of the thousands of top 10 and top 20 listings my websites possess in Google.

The truth is that you can target newsletters with your articles, and still achieve your search engine goals. But then again, if you never write articles that newsletter publishers want to publish, you will never know the power of newsletters for driving traffic, sales and search engine rankings.

While newsletter publishers may be the redheaded stepchildren of most Internet marketers, they are and will always be "my favorite stepchildren".

    Seek Me First

If from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. But unto the place which the Lord your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually.

Set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God; arise therefore, and build ye the sanctuary of the Lord God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the Lord. Now therefore in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the Lord, and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the Lord your God: that ye may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.

And thus did Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and wrought that which was good and right and truth before the Lord his God. And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.

And the children of Israel, which were come again out of captivity, and all such as had separated themselves unto them from the filthiness of the heathen of the land, to seek the Lord God of Israel, did eat. For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments. His children shall seek to please the poor, and his hands shall restore their goods. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.

This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.

Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: let such as love thy salvation say continually, The Lord be magnified.

God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.

Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified. The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their meat from God. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.

Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts. Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek thy good. I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the Lord understand all things. Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow. And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the Lord! Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the Lord speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near.

Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it. And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.

And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

My sheep wandered through all the mountains, and upon every high hill: yea, my flock was scattered upon all the face of the earth, and none did search or seek after them. For thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day. I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.

Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. For thus saith the Lord unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live: Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name. Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken.

Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger. And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the Lord, and to seek the Lord of hosts: I will go also.

Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the Lord. And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.

Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the Lord of hosts.

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth.

Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness ... Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children ... Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets ... and all these things shall be added unto you ... how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Expired Domains - Opportunities to Make Decent Money in the Gloom of Global Recession

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 John Khu

Expired domain name industry may watch a positive trend in the year 2009. Due to halting global economic indicators and drastic job losses, experts believe that online business trend may also see a steep decline vis-a-vis small and medium businesses operating out of borrowed capital. There are possibilities that a number of domains connected to business houses dropping and becoming defunct in this year. However, most of these domains belong to an average to good bracket; you can still expect some very good domains names dropping off the registrars' database. Some of them could be your trump cards and you may wish to backorder for them by using a good registrar service.

If you are a newbie to the world of expired domain names, you may face a daunting situation while buying a good domain. Profitability factors for expired domains in the year 2009, seems to be even when you consider a period of lull in the world of online business. Creating strong domain gains may not be possible until the end of this year when we are likely to see some sort of positive momentum in the global economy.

To buy a profitable domain, you may wish to consider several issue and parameters:

Conduct a thorough research: You will need to be very careful of what you spend on buying ridiculous expired domain names. While it is worthwhile to use a professional service to your domain names, you will need to be extra careful as most of the domains that drop mat belong to an average class. As a result, you will need to find conduct a detailed research to search for good domain names.

Never become too emotional with your domain names: Bidding and auction processes on expire domains could be very fierce. Some special domain names are too enticing and attractive. Never become too emotional about them. After all, you do not own them, not yet! If someone is serious in suggesting a bid price higher than you suggest, let him or her take away that domain. Do not sit on a particular domain name just because it is too good.

Always place a minimum bid price on an expired domain name: Proxy bidding may not really work for you in some cases. Instead, place a minimum bid and wait for the auction process to finish. If you feel that there is a scope for additional bidding, then you can suggest your price. Know your bid price and the maximum amount you are ready to spend.

Look for a name that is lesser than four characters. These domain names are extremely good and it worth spending your money in owning them. However, it is very hard to find these domains, as they are not available right away. There may be some of them with an auction house; make sure that you bargain on their price.

Expired domain gains are possible only when you consider the viability of buying a particular domain. This year provides you an exciting opportunity to find and buy very good domains that could act as your potential money-spinners in the coming years.

Obama Leadership: 8 Ways to Lead in the 21st Century

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Sharif Khan

"I destroy my enemies when I make them my friends." - Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States

The world is looking for a new kind of leader who can bring hope and stability in dark economic times. President Obama could very well be that leader. Only time will tell. What can we learn so far from Obama's style of leadership? Here are some observations to note for leading in the 21st century:

    1. Survival of the Fittest

Charles Darwin spoke of survival of the fittest belonging to the species that is not necessarily the strongest, but the most adaptive. Obama was strong, bold and fiercely determined at the very start of his campaign. But what catapulted his success into the stratosphere was how his communications team adapted to the power of the internet to engage voters through various online social media channels such as Facebook, Myspace, YouTube and Twitter, and by developing a powerful web presence that helped raise over half a billion dollars online for his campaign.

    2. Foes to Friends

Will Lincoln's "team of rivals" strategy of appointing campaign opponents to his cabinet work for President Obama? That remains to be seen; but Obama has shown so far that he is a charismatic leader who can successfully put differences behind and get opponents onboard his team using charm and intelligence. Although easier said than done, an enemy turned into a true friend can prove to be a loyal ally. On a broader scale, Obama's consensus building approach to international relations by seeking to understand before being understood and welcoming multilateral decision making, could help ease world tensions and maybe even convert certain enemy nations into allies. Naïve yes, impossible no.

    3. Lead by Example

On his first day of office, President Obama froze senior White House staff salaries exceeding $100,000 and promised more openness and transparency to "make government more trustworthy in the eyes of the American people." His example sends a clear message to the public that his leadership team is willing to share in the sacrifices necessary to turn the economy around.

    4. Bold and Swift Action

Rhetoric has to be backed by action. In his inaugural speech, Obama spoke of 'bold and swift' action. From the decision to close down Guantanamo prison in a year, to vowing to pull out American combat troops from Iraq in sixteen months, not to mention the herculean task of getting Congress to pass an $800 billion-plus stimulus package, Obama has so far delivered on his call for 'bold and swift' action. Leadership is about judgment - the ability to make decisions. Some of the choices may be wrong in retrospect, but leadership, like a river, must keep moving forward.

    5. Admit Mistakes

It takes a special person of character to readily admit mistakes. When Tom Daschle pulled out of the nomination process for the post of Health Secretary after controversy over his personal tax records, Obama admitted, "I screwed up." He was sincere, direct, and to the point. True leaders earn respect by honestly admitting their mistakes. False leaders are despised, and their plans eventually undermined, because they hide behind their title or position and blame someone else for their own mistakes.

    6. Maintain Poise

Whether in a public debate, press conference, or media interview, Obama has shown his trademark signature of remaining cool, calm, and collected by neither overreacting nor underreacting to curve ball questions and attacks. When all is said and done, the person who can keep cool when others are hot is usually the one to boss the job.

    7. Powered by Purpose

One of the reasons why President Obama has such a high approval rating is that people see that he is driven by a genuine sense of moral purpose. While he could have easily pursued a high paying corporate law career, Obama chose civil rights law practice instead and served as a community organizer who took a grassroots approach to improving his community in the South Side of Chicago. He is a caring and compassionate leader who burns for justice. In perhaps the greatest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in the history of America, Obama expresses outrage at Wall Street execs who pocketed billions in bonuses from taxpayer bailout money and calls for a 'new era of responsibility'.

    8. Hope Rooted in Reality

Abraham Lincoln once said, "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time." With unprecedented access to information today, it is becoming nearly impossible to fool all the people even some of the time. People want the facts and aren't fooled easily. Leaders who make the mistake of blind optimism or obscuring the facts are in for a rude awakening. Without the facts, without the proper diagnosis, the disease will only get worse and spread.

President Obama understands this phenomenon and is a leader who provides hope rooted in reality. With sobering resolve, Obama is telling his people that they will have to hunker down, roll up their sleeves, and work hard to rebuild the American dream; a dream that may take more than a term to rebuild, but that can become a reality - with the audacity of hope.

Finding Balance Between SEO and Non-SEO Traffic Generation

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Kurt D. Lynn

    So much SEO.

You might think, from all the buzz about search engine optimization - SEO - that it offers a cure for all the world's business ills. Somehow, SEO has been propelled from the backwaters of Internet geekdom into the forefront of modern business marketing. For example, if Google's own search results are any indication, the interest in SEO yields almost 50% of the interest in general advertising. That level of interest seems way out of proportion to the realities of business advertising.

    So Why All The Hubbub?

The excitement seems to be around the notion that SEO means "free advertising", that it means, if you do it right, millions of people will be clicking through to your site willy-nilly having found you on some search engine and then will immediately do business with you. And behind all that excitement are thousands of overnight SEO "experts" that, variously, all claim to ... (pick one)

  • Have SEO secrets that will help you get an unfair advantage over the next guy;

  • Guarantee you a first-page listing for an incredibly low monthly rate;

  • Provide hundreds of high page rank sites that will link to your site;

  • Give you 5/10/20 quick tips to immediately improve your rankings;

  • Tell you what Google/MSN/Yahoo doesn't want you to know about SEO;

  • Tell you that whatever SEO you're doing is all wrong; or

  • Some other variant of the above.

  • To some extent, this notion of "free advertising" is not altogether inaccurate. SEO can result in your site being found - free of charge - and it can result in traffic to your site that may, in fact, result in new business. But the reality of SEO is not quite that simple.

    SEO Is Far From "FREE".

SEO takes work... often, hard work. For those that aren't familiar with what's involved in SEO, below is a list of some of the typical activities that (as the CREST commercials used to say) "when applied in a conscientious program of regular professional care" will result in higher search engine rankings.

  • Researching and selecting keywords that are truly relevant to your desired audience;

  • Researching competition for desired keywords;

  • Researching and analyzing competitive websites;

  • Re-writing and restructuring your website to address desired keywords, to be moreaccessible by search engine "crawlers", to appropriate label meta tags, headings, and inter-page links;

  • Create a program to build links to your site from other sites (directories, exchanged links, article marketing, etc.)

  • Create a program to keep content on your site regularly refreshed and synchronized with all the above.

  • Regularly (daily or weekly) monitor all the search engines and your competitors positions

  • SEO Is Not Easy.

Doesn't quite sound as easy as some people suggest does it? That's because it's not. And it's all the more complicated when you realize that every site on that first page, and on the second and third, is trying to do the same thing - but against you! You boost your rank above them. They go to work and boost their site back above yours. And so on and so on... It's a war and the SEO "experts" are the arms dealers.

Your Goals And Those Of The Search Engine May Be Different.

If you're going to pay good money for SEO, it may also be worthwhile to keep in mind that search engines don't necessarily have a goal of making you the most findable site on the web. The bottom line for them is making sure that their users finds what they are looking for. Satisfying that requirement may mean that you don't and should not come up first. Google is the number one search engine for a reason: Google users get results they want. Those may not be the results you want.

    Short Term and Long Term.

In the short run, there may be some serious benefits from investing in SEO to boost your search engine rankings. In the long run, however, there's probably not much you can do beyond a certain point. Frankly, if you have a finite budget, altering the basic nature of your site and trying to boost how valuable your site is to others (as represented by links to your site) can only be taken so far. After a point, the perfect market characteristics of the search engine will prevail.

Balance SEO With Other Forms Of Traffic Generation.

What this means is: yes, do make sure you do the essential SEO necessary to optimize your rankings in search engines. But do it in the context of an overall marketing program. Definitely use SEO to ensure that you get a fair and accurate appraisal by search engines. But also invest in other non-SEO lead-generation methods to bring traffic to your site and business to your table.

Above all, measure the results of your SEO and non-SEO activities carefully and frequently. When SEO reaches the point of diminishing returns, cut the rate in which you invest in it and boost your reliance on non-SEO marketing to reach your goals. In the long run, traditional non-SEO marketing may just be the most reliable and consistent way to boost traffic to your site.

Can I Target Only High-end Customers With My Publicity Offer? Publicity Dilemma 5

    Article Presented by:

Got something you want to use as bait for prospective customers? Publicity can be a great way to spread awareness of the availability of your giveaway item. Write a press release announcing it and highlighting its usefulness to your target market, and often the media cooperate in getting the word out. It also works to send a sample of your free report, audio, video, spreadsheet or whatever to media outlets with a cover sheet describing where and how people can request it.

Things get tricky, though, when you hope to restrict your bait to a certain population. It would be rather silly to put out a press release on the newswires saying, "Anyone who owns a vacation home can go www.zzz.com to download a free energy efficiency report." By making such an offer public, it would become known not only to vacation home owners but also regular homeowners and those who rent. Anyone reading the press release or the resulting coverage could request your freebie.

It might seem that you could avoid opening your publicity offer to the general public by mailing, emailing or faxing your release about it to your preferred media outlets, such as to Vacation Home Magazine, instead of distributing it on the newswires. However, once your offer gets published anywhere, you lose control over it.

In the early 1990s, I had a giveaway offer published in the newsletter Bottom Line/Personal. People could get a free copy of my booklet "6 Steps to Free Publicity" by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to a certain address. The free booklet offer was a wise investment on my part, because Bottom Line/Personal's subscribers were all paying $39.95 annually for the publication and thus were good prospects for follow-up publicity services.

What later happened, though, was that several downmarket publications picked up the offer and reran it without asking me. I was extremely annoyed to learn that a book with a title like "Best Free Things" had apparently reprinted the offer. Anyone who would buy such a book was not likely to hire me to create a publicity campaign. In fact, I continued to receive self-addressed stamped envelopes for 10 years after the Bottom Line/Personal notice ran, mainly from various aftermarket announcements.

Sometimes you can prevent such problems by making the content of your bait relevant only to your target audience. For instance, if you offered a free report called "Maintaining Your Kubota Tractor So It Stays in Service for More Than 10 Years," few people not owning Kubota tractors would bother to request it.

In the end, the very aspect of publicity that makes it appealing can undermine its usefulness when you are trying to accomplish something very specific. Publicity is an affordable method of getting the word out because the news media have a constant need of stories. But the media are in charge of the process after you hand over ingredients for their work. It's up to them to help you, ignore you or go against your wishes.

For the individual or organization hoping to target only affluent customers, I suggest using direct mail rather than publicity to deliver your offer. Direct mail stays under the radar. It's controllable. Mail your offer only to high net-worth households, and the chances remain very good that only high net-worth households will see it and take advantage of it.

Buying Expired Domain Names - Some Simple Suggestions

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 John Khu

Hundreds of expired domain traders buy a number of expired domain names, sell them to the highest bidder or flip them into useful web sites to make more money and profit. However, most of them commit a number of mistakes and blunders in the process, which could be due to a number of reasons and factors. Here are some simple suggestions and tips to help you in buying good expired domain names:

Dropped domains can be anything! If a domain was dropped by its previous owner, you may not be too sure about its quality and commercial viability. A dropped domain is not as good as a domain purchased from a person who no longer needs it. Dropped domains may not show good return on your investment, as the inherent quality of those domains will be still under doubt vis-à-vis traffic and incoming links. Under usual circumstances, dropped domains can result in a total loss of search engine ranking as well as accumulated traffic. Google and other major search engines may delete the entire list related to an expired domain, soon after the announcement of drop. On the other hand, search engines like DMOZ and Yahoo are more liberal in their approach. Yahoo always charges a hefty registration fee of about $299 to list a particular domain. It makes sense to buy an expired domain listed on these two search engines just to save some money and time. Domains expiring must be treated in a different way, as you are not too sure of the future course of events; the dropping domain may be picked up invisible buyers through a buying process called domain backordering.

Another mistake that a number of expired domain traders commit is to hold on to their inventory in the hope that someone will come forward to buy their domains. Never ever, commit the mistake of holding on to your domains. Rotate your domains; if you find a lucrative offer, go ahead and sell it. Create a big turnover by selling your stock whenever you get a good offer. If at all you are planning to resell you domain, do not park it with anyone. Instead, create a good web site, host it with a goof host and create catchy and SEO friendly content and images. Once you feel that you have a good web portal, and then you can search for a good buyer, who is ready to pay a big price.

Before buying any expired domain, ensure that you are checking the history of domain in a comprehensive manner. The best way to conduct a comprehensive search is to use the WayBack Archive, which provides you basic information on a particular domain that has just expired. Everyone agrees that incoming links and traffic contribute a lot to the value of an expired domain. While it is very difficult for a newbie domain trader to find out if there is any traffic attached to a particular expired domain, experienced and hard-boiled ones can scent a domain that displays lot of traffic and links.

    Why Have a Home Business?

    Article Presented by:

Working from home has its advantages. There are many reasons why there is an increase in start up home businesses. Of course the worsening economy is one of the biggest incentives for starting a home business. Here are some benefits.

    Benefits Of Working From Home:

  • Adaptable hours: you can select your own hours when you own your own business. You can choose how long you can work and have more time for your family. Instead of working for others you will be able to have more free time.

  • Fewer expenses: this is another advantage of having your own business. Unlike a bricks and mortar business you do not have to shell out for office space. You do not have to commute to work, and waste your money and time.

  • Sole proprietor: You are the CEO and owner of your own business. Nobody is going to give you orders! No more supervisors breathing down your neck. Your business will rise or fall by your decisions.

  • Relieve tension: no more stress from your 9-5 job. You can now work in a calmer atmosphere from home. Tension and stress are some of the major causes of health problems today. When you cut down your stress you will improve your health and relationships with everyone around you.

  • You are in charge of the money: You are solely responsible for how much you are going to earn. Whatever you make will come directly to you, not to the big boss. It is wonderful to realize that the work you do for your business will benefit you.

  • It is plain to see the benefits of working at home. When you own your own business you will be very satisfied. You can expand your knowledge and skills. At last you can enjoy your working hours and finally make the most of your life. Plus you have the satisfaction that you are working to achieve financial independence.

There are a variety of ways to develop your business. You can help others by using your life experiences. For instance if you have been raising a family you can start a parenting site to help others who are having family problems or are single parents.

Developing a business around your hobby is a very enjoyable way to run your business from home. Build a website and start a free ezine based on your hobby. You will attract many people who share your passion. Another idea is to develop a membership site and include tips, information and even a forum. You will be able to earn a nice living by charging a small monthly fee.

Joining a network marketing opportunity is another way to make a profitable home business. There are a wide variety of these types of businesses to choose from, some are total scams but others are very good. In order to differentiate between the good and the bad you will need to do your research well. One of the best opportunities is Mona Vie. This company is well established and has been in business for more than 4 years. The product is very good and you will have the double pleasure of not only using it but also selling the product to others, when they join your team of sales people.

Protect Your Financial Future With An Online Business

    Article Presented by:
    Copyright © 2009 Bill Platt

The world around us is concerned about the future. With Obama in the White House and record government spending during this economic recession, many of our neighbors are sweating what the future holds in store for them.

I worried about it for a bit, and then I realized that those of us who live our business lives on the Internet will not see the same depths of recession that our brick-and-mortar counterparts will experience.

All one has to do is to visit their local restaurants or the retail shop that offers the newest in cell phone products to realize that while people are fearful, they are not broke. People are still spending money to a large extent.

While people are still spending money in the marketplace, some businesses are continuing to fail around us... Not because the businesses do not have good products or people willing to buy those products, but because many industries rely upon bank loans to help them bridge the gap between production and payment from their clients.

For example, the automakers have to carry a huge burden of cost between the production of an automobile and when that vehicle is finally sold to a consumer. It is not the lack of customers that are killing the businesses we all know and respect, but instead, it is a lack of bridge capital (a.k.a. commercial credit) that is killing American businesses.

    Look Out For Number One

If you are one of those people who are wondering whether your job will still be there next year, the only person who is going to look out for your best interests is you.

Starting an online business can be a very inexpensive process. Depending on the angle you take with your online business, you may only need to spend less than $50 per month to get on your feet with a viable online business.

For people who are just getting started with an online business, I strongly recommend Site Build It (http://www.thephantomwriters.com/sbi). SBI provides a system that enables anyone - and I do mean anyone - to build a commerce-ready website in just a couple hours. Beyond a user-friendly website building tool, SBI also offers training to help its members to be more successful.

One of the factors that make SBI so attractive in my book is its focus on Affiliate Products.

    What Are Affiliate Products?

Affiliate products are products that are set up to enable third-party persons (affiliates) to advertise the product and earn a commission on any sale that is generated from the affiliate's advertising.

For example, the affiliate program from which I have made the most money over the years - to be honest, thousands of dollars over the years - is the product line offered by World Wide Brands (http://www.thephantomwriters.com/wwb).

World Wide Brands is committed to helping online sellers find the companies who sell products wholesale and the companies who offer drop shipping services to online sellers. If you are not familiar with the term "drop shipping", it means that you would be able to buy a product from them and have them "drop ship" the product directly to your customer, as if you had that product in stock when the product was purchased from you and you delivered the product from your own warehouse.

I introduce people to the products offered by World Wide Brands, through a special link that tracks my referrals, and if the person I delivered to the World Wide Brands website makes a purchase, I earn a commission on that sale. It is as simple as that.

Another affiliate program that is very similar to World Wide Brands is the program offered by Doba (http://www.thephantomwriters.com/doba). Rather than a catalog of drop-shipping companies, Doba is an Ebay-Certified drop shipper.

Simply put, an Affiliate Program is any product or service from which you can earn a commission, if you do your part by delivering a buying customer to the seller's website.

    Affiliate Networks

There are literally thousands of companies who offer affiliate commissions on the sale of their products or services. Fortunately, we don't have to search the web for weeks on end to find available products and services that we would like to sell.

There are companies that have been built for the purpose of helping sellers initiate affiliate programs for their products and services. These companies literally represent hundreds and sometimes thousands of sellers who offer affiliate programs.

Within each network, you can shop for the products and services that you wish to sell from your own website. Within some affiliate networks, you can just plug in a product to your website and begin selling. Within other affiliate networks, you may have to request the right to promote a product and wait for the seller to approve your affiliate application.

Clickbank.com is an affiliate network company that enables you to start selling any product in their network, without forcing you to wait on approval to begin selling a product. This is the primary reason why most software developers choose to work almost exclusively with the Clickbank network.

Other affiliate network companies of note include:

  • Commission Junction (www.cj.com)

  • PepperJamNetwork.com

  • CommissionSoup.com

  • LinkConnector.com

  • LinkShare.com

  • ShareASale.com

  • Getting started with these affiliate networks is easy. You simply need to sign up for an account and verify your email address.

Personally, I have accounts with each of the above-mentioned affiliate networks.

    Where Most Websites Fail

Where most webmasters fail in their quest to make a living online is in the final step. Once a website is set up with products and services to sell, the final and most important step in the process is to drive traffic to the website.

To be honest, I even failed in this part of the equation when I got started online. Fortunately, I got started way back in 1995 when the Internet was still brand new. Back then, there were not a lot of people who had mastered the Internet marketing concept - well, there were not many people bragging about how well they were doing online with Internet marketing anyway.

I finally started getting my head around this online marketing thing in 1999, when I discovered people who were teaching others how they could be successful with an online business - in the same way that I do now.

In 1998, I started reading articles like this one - articles intended to teach people how to be successful with an online business. But I was a bit slow on the uptake...

It was by chance in 1999 that I saw a link in the one marketing newsletter that I read every week. That link suggested that I could write an article and submit it to the newsletter for consideration of publication.

It is true that I did not know a lot about marketing a business online, but I thought that maybe I could share a lesson that I had learned while operating my online newsletter. So I wrote a short article of about 700 words and submitted it to that newsletter.

It was a full three months later when I received a message from the editor of the publication telling me that my article would be featured in his publication the next day. With that email, my future was forever changed.

When published in that newsletter, my website which had seen 750 visitors over the previous two years suddenly served several thousand visitors in one day. I was ecstatic.

With my initial success, I wrote six more articles in six weeks and sent them through a mailing list that told publishers about the availability of my articles. Then I got distracted for several months and forgot about articles.

By chance, six months later I noticed a sudden and huge surge of traffic to my website, so I did a bit of investigation as to how that had happened. Lo and behold, one of my articles had been published in another large newsletter.

Upon learning this information, I decided that I needed to check on the reprint success of those first six articles. I was able to track a pretty wide swath of newsletters that had reprinted my articles; although I am certain that I missed a few. But with the newsletters that I was able to find that had used my articles, they had a combined circulation of 1.5 million readers.

With this discovery, I never again let articles disappear from my marketing plan. These days, I write a new article every time that I launch a new website, and I strive to put new articles out as frequently as I can manage to do, for all of my income-generating websites.

The trick in using articles as an advertising platform is that the article should teach its readers something of value; otherwise publishers will not want to use them. Sure it is true that you can still get a lot of links to your website from websites that publish your articles, because webmasters tend to be much less selective about the articles they are willing to publish. But I figure that if I am going to take the time to write an article, then I should take the extra time to ensure that a newsletter publisher and any quality-oriented webmaster will be just as likely to publish that article, as the webmaster who has no standards at all.

At the end of every article is a paragraph that tells the author's biography. When done right, the paragraph that tells you that this article was written by Bill Platt will also tell you what website I am wanting you to visit and why you would want to visit that website. When my article and my "about the author" information is done well, you will visit my website. And hopefully once at my website, you will decide that you may be interested in purchasing what I offer.

Advertising Is Available In Many Formats

Using articles to promote a website is what is referred to as "article marketing", but it is only one method of dozens that are available to help you promote your new online business.

You should use whatever advertising methods work well for you. For me, article marketing is my primary method of advertising online, but others might prefer pay-per-click advertising in the search engines.

In the end, it does not matter what method of advertising you choose to promote your website, so long as you actually use some method of advertising to bring potential customers to your website.

The Light At The End Of The Tunnel

Once you have your website built and traffic coming to your website, you will notice that light far off in the distance at the end of the tunnel. With your first sale, you will begin to realize that you really do have it in you to be successful online. After a number of sales, you will realize that it is simply a matter of time until you are earning an income substantial enough to protect your income, in the event that your employer decides that they need to cut your job to survive the current recession.

In the end, you are the only person who will do what is necessary to protect your financial future. By starting your own online business, you will begin to gain something even more powerful than money... You will gain a respect for yourself that you have never had before, and you will begin to understand how it is completely within your power to control your own destiny in this life.
